But, i can easily say now i wasted $800.00 the iPad is defiantly not worth that much. i also have a couple Tablet PC's and i can say they are Much more useful. the iPad does that the iPhone and iPod Touch did... nothing more, nothing less. just slightly bigger screen, and shows more at a time. BUY A TABLET PC!I will never buy an Apple Product Again! without giving it a try 1st

You idiots. Use one, then make a decision if you like it or not. I hate it when people say it's an oversized iPod Touch because that couldn't be further from the truth. It's not about what you use it for, it's about how you use it. I have a netbook and I NEVER do anything professional on it, only use it for e-mail, word processing, movies, music, youtube and run the occasional game here and there. And this is what the iPad is perfect at doing. Once you actually use an iPad, you'll be amazed.

Believe it or not there are millions of applications that are not sold through the apple app store... and that's not even counting flash applications. Netbooks are real computers with real operating systems. Yes, LESS computing power than a netbook. Apple's iPad processor is a custom 1ghz processor that is so weak the iPad can't multitask. Sorry, iPad sucks. It's true.

AsktheTechies' setup in a better world would be in one device. It would be great to have the power of a MACPRO tower in a tablet. I am a student and do visual effects/graphic design and I think the keyboard, mouse and tower should no longer exist. A computer should just be a tablet or portable screen. I think it will be something like a tablet with a slimmed down version of Snow Leopard but I can see it being something completely different to a Mac or a normal tablet PC because Apple always make things totally different but I can't wait to see the design because that is the best thing about Apple products. Maybe I've had an iPhone for too long now; but I don't really think the iPhone OS is capable for anything more than a (granted, pretty damn good) mobile phone. I personally think the iPhone OS requires a complete rewrite from the ground up; it was great at the start but it's a bit laggy now. I don't really want my Tablet to be like that. Probably my most important point is the ability to use keyboard and mouse. It's beyond me why I can't use my keyboard with my iPhone; that would be awesome.

Points 2 and 3 which you mentioned look very promising. Point 1 - as they're asking app developers to produce apps for a larger screen, it could quite poss mean they're sticking to the iPhone OS (which i dont have a prob with). Not sure if the last point is relevant, I think they'd be tapping too much into the Mac computer lines i.e. macbook, imac etc.

I'm hoping for a number of things from the 'tablet': - An Mac OS X-like operating system. I don't think it will be possible to make a decent attempt at having a direct copy (we've seen this fail with Windows tablets. - It needs to be around about the size of an A4 page. - Needs to have a mini-displayport adapter so it can be used with a second monitor. - Must allow keyboard and mouse connections via bluetooth. - Should be able to run any OS X software. =)

Again, good points made. I think real-estate is probably one of the major/key factor in justifying paying for one of these tablets. I personally dont see the point in creating a totally new OS (it might hog up their key Mac and iPhone OS business units). The iPhone OS already works a treat, they could simply tweak/alter it to better cater for the tablet.

just not feeling a tablet, if its revolutionary then i think i would buy one but if it's an upscaled iphone/ipod touch then probably not. saw the rumors of the textual feedback from virtual keys, that looks cool. I agree - they'll have to include features which are UNIQUE (be it simple or simply a new way of doing something). But yes, I agree on the most with you. It will have to be something different in order for it to sell well and to appeal for people. I think that because Apple are leaders in iTunes and the App Store - this could add to their benefit.

Possibly, but the first company to deliver this wins: 1. eReader 2. Access to web 3. Ability to email/text 4. a phone 5. Size of a smartbook or Kindle or even iPhone You give the world that... you have a multi-billion dollar all-in-one product I would buy tomorrow. The tablet is cool but not necessary IMO. For gadget-philes, by all means, get it and have fun. For the rest of us, wait and get an all-in-one that is certainly on the horizon from some major manufacturer.

Yes, fake was the wrong word. Just wrong is more like it. It goes completely left of Apple's current design direction. The UI is just...off. And the single button goes against Apple's trend of rounded solid interface. For nearly the last decade, Apple has had rounded keys or completely circular power/home keys. The demo was smooth, yes, aside from the awkwardly photoshopped hands, and that it was focused on sports. It would have been more effective demonstrating a design related magazine........

That's the best part, if this is how smooth it looks, maybe Apple gave the companies a heads up on the tablet showing them the limitation without actually showing the main product. This does seem to good to be true, but it's not like Apple to release the OS early and let these people work with it before hand. @strongbad73 - not really. They are doing an update and a new phone that say it can make 2 things at once, but its actually not really multitasking. Reports so far say that the "multitasking" apple presents is actually onlt 2 programs running, but only one at a time. When you shift from one program to the other, the first program halts until you return to it. But i could be wrong. Would be nice if Apple came back from the 80's.
